Organic Baby Products - They Are Good For Your Baby

In 2005, my wife Melanie gave birth to beautiful twins Jack and Lilly. Like most parents, we want to do everything we can to make sure our children will grow up to be as healthy as possible. This led us to start researching organic baby products. This is a product made with all natural ingredients. They are free of harmful and potentially harmful chemicals found in most babies and other children's products. Some of the organic products we have used are listed below:

1) Clothes, blankets and towels made with organic cotton or Bamboo.

2) Toys made of wood that are either painted with natural coloring or not painted at all.

3) Luxury organic cotton toys.

4) Baby lotions are free of toxic chemicals such as Phthalates, which can cause developmental problems, and irritate the baby's skin.

5) BPA (bisphenol A) free baby bottle.

6) Shampoo is free of any toxic chemicals.

7) Organic baby food.

8) Natural cotton cloth diapers.

As Melanie and I began to understand the many dangers inherent in conventional baby products, we decided to use natural baby products whenever possible. We were amazed at some of the things we found.

Any product made with inorganic cotton may be mixed with residual chemicals from the manufacturing process and from insecticides used to grow cotton. Clothes, towels, bedding and other products can still contain dangerous levels of these toxic chemicals even after repeated washing.

Conventional baby lotions and shampoo can contain many chemicals that can irritate the baby's skin, cause rash, and are harmful to their health. Many ingredients in baby lotions and inorganic shampoo have never been tested by the FDA or any other government agency. Some of the harmful chemicals that may be found are 1,4-dioxide, a known cancer-causing agent, and Phthalates that can cause reproductive and developmental problems. Manufacturers often do not need to list all these chemicals in bottles.

We were surprised to see traces of pesticides and other chemicals used by farmers to grow large crops, found in most inorganic baby foods containing fruits or vegetables. The FDA approves this and states that safe levels are allowed. We believe the only level allowed is zero. We also find it worrying that cows are often given antibiotics and growth hormones, an effect that makes them into baby milk drinks. We turn to organic milk to make sure that these harmful chemicals do not get into our twin milk.

In addition to the health benefits of organic baby products there are additional reasons we have decided that they are the right choice for our twins. Clothing made from organic cotton and bamboo is softer than conventional cotton and is therefore more comfortable to wear. Our daughter, Lilly, has very sensitive skin. Before we switch to all organic clothing, he always gets rash. After switching to all the rash organic clothes he went away and he was more comfortable. Many people believe that organic toys are better for children's imagination and therefore learning. This type of toy is easier than many conventional toys without a lot of parts and moving sounds. This leads to fewer disorders for the baby.

Another reason we decided to use organic products is that they are good for the earth. Chemicals used to grow inorganic crops and produce inorganic products can eventually track soil, water, and air. These chemicals often kill wildlife and plants and poison the water supply. Organic baby products do not pose such a danger to the earth.

Using organic baby products has given me a wife and peace of mind. We know we protect precious children from the dangers inherent in some conventional baby products.
