We know that the human growth hormone secreted by our pituitary gland is the hormone responsible for growth, but there is another important hormone we need to consider if we want to increase our height. And that's the hormone our thyroid gland produces.
The thyroid gland is the largest gland in our body. It is located on the lower neck below the cartilage of the thyroid (also known as adam apple for men). The thyroid also helps to grow higher because the hormone thyroid produces by the gland helps regulate the body's metabolism and also regulates the oxidation rate in our body. Therefore, we need these glands to function properly to increase maximum height. If you are aware, this is why people or children with thyroid hormone deficiency do not get higher and often have brain problems.
Unlike the pituitary gland that can do many things to produce human growth hormones, the thyroid requires only one chemical element to function properly and that is iodine. Thyroid combines tyrosine (an essential amino acid) with iodine to make thyroxine. This is the hormone we need to get higher. We need about 70 to 150 micrograms of iodine intake. Insufficient intake of iodine can lead to enlarged thyroid glands or also known as goiter. However, too much iodine can also cause goiter and can promote the growth and development of the whole body.
The source of foods rich in iodine is a type of seafood especially seaweed. Other sources are Asparagus, Garlic, Kelp, Five peas, Mushrooms, Spinach. The best and most common source of iodine is anodized salt.
