The Water Fasting Diet Myth - Does it Work Or is it Unhealthy?

I have read a lot about the subject of water fasting lately and there seems to be a great uprising in the movement across the media. Even the fast water diet was just published in the New York Times just a few days ago, so obviously this diet hit the United States with a bang!

But does it really work or do people just try to sell more of their products, trying to hit the latest fad?

I have put a lot of time and effort into researching this subject lately and have come to the conclusion that water fasting is actually a lifestyle that can be used by almost anyone with great results.

Here's why.

First of all, research has shown that during fasting, you burn more fat than when you just eat regularly throughout the day. To some, this may seem obvious but many people are under the impression that if you fast you will only lose muscle.

Also, a few hours into the fast 24 hours, I suggest, your body starts increasing the production of human growth hormone (HGH) which does several things including:

  1. Burn more fat
  2. Helps build and maintain muscle
  3. It has anti-aging properties

Another surprising thing to know about water fasting is that as you do so, your body will eventually gain much needed rest and will begin to repair, detoxify and cleanse itself.

This in turn will help your organs run more efficiently, which will help you lose weight and feel better.

But I think the best part about eating water fasting is that even though you think you'll starve all the time, it won't happen. I was personally asked to eat maybe 3 times over a 24 hour period and they only last about 3-5 minutes each time.

It's actually easier than trying to prepare, cook and eat 6 times a day!

And another great thing is that when you are on a diet your fasting automatically becomes more aware of your eating habits.

On the whole, eating water fasts once or twice a week combined with endurance training is a very easy way to lose weight. I personally do fasting water twice a week and I can guarantee that after 1-3 fasts, it will not bother you anymore and you will be able to eat without food for 24 hours.
