Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727), a physicist and mathematician, is arguably one of the greatest scientific intellectuals in recorded history. In addition to creating a form of calculus, Mr. Newton defined the laws of gravity and motion. His work today and remains the basis for scientific discovery and discovery.
But how can this help you lose weight?
One of the greatest achievements in Isaac's career (and the fundamental basis for our understanding of the universe) was the creation of three laws of scientific movement, specifically the third law stating:
"Every action has the same and opposite reaction"
Like all laws of the universe, this law applies to everything - including your body composition! In fact, if you really want to lose weight and inches of body fat so you can get into "skinny jeans" or look good on the beach, you better pay close attention to this law and its effects;
How You Eat
When you eat any food there is a hormone response. ACTION Eating foods causes REACTION of hormone responses in your body. Hormone response can be positive and cause an increase in fat burning hormones such as growth hormone, glucagon or testosterone, or it can be negative and lead to an increase in fat storage hormones such as cortisol and insulin. This is the main reason why many diets, though low in calories, still do not cause major fat loss. Once you make the connection between the foods you eat and the effect on your body's hormone balance, you begin to understand why certain "health" foods are actually not good for your body composition.
The best food for a positive hormone reaction will always be food that is as close to natural as possible with minimal processing or supplementation.
How Do You Exercise
The type of exercise you do, the amount of time you spend exercising, as well as the number of reps and sets in your program can either lead to a good hormone response (increase in your body's testosterone, and growth hormone) or a bad response (too much cortisol). Exercise DOES bring about a hormonal reaction in your body. Many people have developed poor exercise habits. Common mistakes include doing cardio exercises, taking long-term weight training and not getting enough intensity, not doing enough compound movements, doing the same routine month after month, and ignoring flexibility training.
How do you feel
It is interesting to note that the most important step to getting into a good shape and losing an inch of body fat has nothing to do with exercise or nutrition. The first step involves only your mind. Thinking and coping with stress gives REACTION the hormone response. The way you think and how you deal with everyday situations has an immediate effect on the stress hormones cortisol and DHEA. Cortisol, a stress hormone produced by the adrenal glands, is a glucocorticoid.
This means it has the ability to increase blood sugar. There is nothing inherently "bad" about cortisol as long as it stays at homeostasis and is balanced by its counter hormone, DHEA. Problems arise when cortisol production is persistent and excessive leading to high blood sugar levels (great if you need a short burst of energy but not so good if your goal is to lose fat) and lose muscle. High cortisol can also lead to the reduction of DHEA, an important hormone for testosterone production and the formation and maintenance of lean muscle tissue. Two of the most effective cortisol management techniques are prayer and meditation. Start spending just a few minutes every day using one of these techniques and you will notice a significant reduction in your stress levels and an increase in personal satisfaction and overall well-being.
Legend has it that Isaac Newton is the first physicist to sport a great set of abs! He understood the action / reaction relationship and now you do. Think about the hormone response to your next meal or exercise and make the necessary changes to achieve the "happiness" hormone.
