Western Diet:
People in Western countries, especially the United States, have meat and milk for their diet more than anything else. Suppliers of these products add hormones to enhance production and quality. Everyone knows that hormone growth promoters (HGPs) are used to reach large numbers of livestock. Therefore, in the United States, the FDA allows the harmonic injection of cows. These hormones are intended to increase production and profitability for dairy suppliers, but we also need to look at our health.
Let's look at the hormones in the first case:
Hormones come as natural supplements that stimulate the body's chemical reactions that affect the functioning of organs. We need these hormones for our development and women especially need them to give birth. Cow's milk is a good hormone for health. But real fears come when we think of synthetic hormones, and inject them into the livestock body.
Milk contains growth hormones:
During the 1930s-40s, we saw the initial injection of hormones in cattle when somatotropin bovine (BST) was used to increase milk production. This hormone is produced by the pituitary gland in cattle that works with other hormones to produce milk. During 1980-90 records were achieved in increasing milk production using rBGH (Recombinant Bomb growth hormone).
Meat containing growth hormone:
In 1956 DES (diethyllstilbestrol) was injected into the cows to make them fatter and give the meat faster. This process ensures faster meat supply. The FDA has proposed the following to ensure more supply: Hormone Growth Promoter (HJP) - 6 types of Natural Hormones - Testosterone, Oestradiol, Progesterone Synthetic Hormone - Trenbolone, Maintaining, Zeranol
Growth hormones in foods:
When we inject hormones in cows, the smaller residues of these hormones convey to meat and dairy products extracted from cows. We do not have any studies that determine the effects of consuming this product. But there are still some dangers that have been found and are listed below:
- Decrease teenage years in both boys and girls
- Women are subject to breast cancer
- Men are subject to prostate cancer
There are environmental issues that still concern people involved in research. Hormones not only deliver to food products but also to cow manure. When this type of fertilizer passes into the river, it affects the life of fish and other aquatic animals. Since then, the European Union's (EU) advisory body has strictly restricted the use of hormones with food and imported beef products from the United States to protect the health of their people.
