Maca Root - An Herb For Grumpy Old Men (And Women)

We all know that as men age, our testosterone levels go down. The deterioration is usually gradual and often unnoticed except for the realization that it is more difficult than ever to get out of bed on a Monday morning after working in the yard all weekend. Or maybe a romantic getaway with your wife or girlfriend seems like more than just fun work. Or, worse, unexpected opportunities for sex arise, but you do not.

Now the reasons for decreasing recovery rates from exercise and decreasing gender are not entirely due to declining testosterone levels, as other hormones such as human growth hormone (HGH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), are also involved in synergy.

Everyone knows Viagra, the most profitable pharmaceutical drug ever made. Viagra works with its magic to directly block the breakdown of the enzymes responsible for smooth muscle relaxation. The resulting vasodilatation (expansion of blood vessels) then increases the erection that may occur with sexual stimulation. It's completely mechanical, and while it certainly works, it has no lasting effect on libido or physical strength and stamina.

Are there any herbs or natural supplements that can help curb sexual function such as Viagra? The answer is "yes" but with some harsh warnings.

There is only one natural substance that I know of that has an aphrodisiacal effect as direct as Viagra and that is Yohimbe herb. To extract information from the Sloan-Kettering herb database, the yohimbe effect is caused by: "... Blocking alpha2-adrenoreceptors result in increased blood supply to large body tissues. Yohimbine increases catecholamine release in peripheral tissues not associated with sympathetic stimulation. Yogimbine aphrodisiac activity may be due to the widening of the genital tract, and increased sensation in the genital tissue and increased reflex excitation in the sacred area.

Although yohimbe may work, (I have tried it) but I do NOT recommend it because of the serious side effects such as increased blood pressure, increased anxiety, seizures and many other dangers. Again, it is instructive to refer to the list of adverse reactions listed on the above site.

Despite the effectiveness of yohimbe in promoting " unity ", if you want, I have to say it makes me VERY uncomfortable. Like I wanted to crawl out of my skin. Anxiety and the creation of love have never been a good combination.

What about herbs or supplements that can cause basic physical and sexual challenges faced by older men? Any help here?

Yes, there is. There are actually some herbs that have a long history of use in promoting male sexual health and spirit. Among these are ginseng, damiana, muira puama, catuaba, horny goat weed (ok duh!), well, cordyceps mushrooms and read the root, among others.

A book can be written on just a few of the herbs mentioned above, and there are many that I have not mentioned that may be equally effective. Therefore, I will focus on one ingredient in particular, reading the root, as it has a large body of research that supports its use, which seems rather safe, as it is used as a food in South America, but mostly because of my personal experience with it.

I'll tell you a little bit ... One of my passions is developing and formulating a new nutritional formula. I was asked by a friend, a bodybuilder, to formulate a powder supplement to supplement with protein drinks to aid recovery from exercise.

Well, the first test group is included creatine, L-glutamine, beta-ecdysterone, and several other natural products, including reading root extracts. I call it APAC, short for Anabolic Protein Activation Activation. The first group felt terrible and yet EVERYONE liked it ... because it worked. I took it myself and put on a few pounds of muscle briefly. I go from around £ 145 to £ 155 in 6 weeks. *

I also noticed, and couldn't help but notice, the dramatic increase in my sex drive. I contribute to the synergy between the various components and continue to try different combinations of ingredients to find the right one. The fun part was never resolved as more projects were brought to the forefront and APAC projects were dismissed. While testing different formulas, I determined that it was likely the root extract of the reader that was responsible for increasing my libido. In fact, I believe it.

So how does reading work? Well that's a curious thing. Studies have shown that it works to improve men's and women's sexual energy, but it does not affect what we consider to be sex-control hormones such as testosterone, FSH and LH. Speculation is that the receptors for these hormones may be positively affected.

So what's the best way to read?

There are many extracts on the market, usually at 4: 1 concentrations in the form of pills or as a liquid. Most herbal companies and supplements referenced below offer reading formulations. Personally, I prefer to use concentrated powder, which I bought in bulk several years ago during my APAC test, and I just mix it into protein shake, in a blender.

Unsaturated flour is also available in many health food stores nationwide, and it can be used directly as a food.

I encourage you to treat herbs with great respect, especially herbs that have powerful medicinal properties. Proceed with caution and stop using herbs if you notice any adverse effects. It is a good idea to consult a qualified health professional who is familiar with the use of herbs before using herbs or nutritional supplements.

To Your Health!
