For most people, the closest they can come to understanding the inner workings of human cells is if they watch the movie "Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace". In one scene in the movie, Jedi master Qui-Gon Jinn is trying to explain the power in the Jedi Knight. He told the audience about the microscopic life forms called "midi-chlorians" that live in all living cells. These midi chlorians are a source of Jedi power because they are links to "The Force".
Many people who are somewhat knowledgeable about human cells believe that Master Qui-Gon Jinn's testimony contains the substance of truth.
In our human cells is a structure known as mitochondria.
These structures are bacterial and help provide cell energy. At one point, they might be bacteria living in the cell, but, for millions of years, they lost most of their "living" aspects, but still played a role in generating energy in the cell. Recent research shows that they also take part in a variety of functions including choosing a child's sex, deciding what factors will occur in the embryo, and whether or not a person will have Alzheimer's!
As we age, one thing that happens is that mitochondria start to "lose their power" and maybe even go to the "dark side of the team". In fact, some of it got worse before we parents started worrying about things like anti-aging products, exercise, nutrition, and other stupid things ... that didn't come as a surprise when the old version of Darth Vader, the man with the sickle, approach .
Okay, so mitochondria basically transform the nutrients we provide to the energy we need to survive. So what?
Well, it seems to me that if we really become anti-aging thinking, we want to keep our mitochondria happy and healthy. We can do this in many ways.
The easiest way is to lead a healthy lifestyle: regular exercise, proper nutrition, proper rest, just to name a few of the steps we can take. In the nutrition department, we may want to ensure a good supply of antioxidants as they help fight free radicals that greatly damage the mitochondria. Get eight hours of sleep every night, along with two other factors that help with the natural production of HGH (Human Growth Hormone), which is better than buying on the street from some renegade doctors.
