Beginner Wine Making Kit

The best wine making kit you can buy, is what you'll find on this list. I also add definitions of terms, if you're not sure what they are. First, you need the primary and the secondary. These are six or six gallons of plastic white bucket, and then either 6-7 apple gallon apple juice, or 3 to 5 gallons of cowboy (a large glass or plastic jug usually with a handle and a spigot or plastic tube at the bottom for drainage.)

Airlock and bung are mechanisms that "hat" for fermentation. It allows carbon dioxide pathways made from yeast, without any oxygen entering the wine. The hydrometer and the hydrometer jar look like test tubes and thermometers. It is used to check the specific gravity (thickness) of the wine, as well as the percentage of alcohol content. The siphon host is what it really is. . . to refresh the wines from one jug to another and to remove the sediment each time the wine is transferred.

There is a ton of chemicals used to help in the winemaking process. The acidic mixture adds high-quality (sour) vinegar to the wine, and helps the yeast and sugar function to its full potential. Pectic enzymes break down pectin (a gelatinous substance) that some higher sugar content can be released. Grape tannins are acids that essentially give the wine a "bite" or "spirit." Campden Tablets help clean equipment and add sulfur dioxide as needed before fermentation. Potassium Sorbate, and Potassium Metabisulfite are used in place of Campden Tablet.

Yeast wine and yeast nutrients are what start fermentation. Wine yeast is a bacterial living bacterium, and breaks down sugar into smaller alcohol sugars (making alcoholic beverages). Yeast nutrients are generally "growth hormones" for yeast, although sugar is considered to be yeast food. "Nylon-straining bags are a great substitute for pulp juice that can squeeze juice from the pulp. , so it can capture sediment, and it's easier to get rid of sediment and clean.

Finally, you'll need corks, corkers, and bottles for the final product. Size # 9 is the most standard of cork bottles, and you really need to buy good quality cork for the process. The wrapper is an instrument that will protect the cork in the bottle firmly. Typically, you need five 750 ml bottles per gallon of US wine.

The above item is for beginner wine makers. If you are interested in advanced equipment, it is best to get some items such as gram scale, acid test kit, pH meter, SO2 test kit, wine or fruit press, crusher and floor fastener.
