What's So Special About Organic Food?

We are here dedicated to the blog of the American Revolution in bringing our readers an unbiased information about the world of organic food. First of all, organic foods meet the same standards of quality and safety as conventional foods. The difference lies in how food is produced, processed and handled. Organic foods are produced using synthetic ingredients other than a small list of less than 10 exceptions specified in the law. The production of seafood can and does not meet this definition.

Organic foods are produced without the use of most conventional poisons, fertilizers made with synthetic or sewage sludge, bioengineering or ionizing radiation. Before a product can be labeled as "organic," the government-approved certification examines the farm where the food is grown to ensure that farmers comply with all of the regulations required to meet USDA organic standards. Organic foods are safe and provide nutritional value and flavor to those who eat them. In addition to being grown and processed in accordance with organic certification requirements, organic products must also meet all food safety requirements and appropriate labeling, just like any other food.

Organic foods are produced without synthetic input. For plants, this means production without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, or fungicides in soils that have been free of synthetic materials for at least three years. Organic food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and conservation of land and water to improve the quality of the environment for future generations.

Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are not given antibiotics or growth hormones. Conventional wisdom says that we should avoid foods that are herbicidal, pesticides, and fungicides. Half a century ago, there was some truth to this: Sprays were primitive and left chemical deposits often spared all the way to the dining table. Conventional food advocates also claim that rigorous safety assessments show that pesticide residues are not a threat to human health. But users intuitively know this is a false guarantee.

Conventional fruits and vegetables contain more water and less vitamins, minerals and anti-oxides than organic produce. Even processed organic foods are better for you, as manufacturers are banned from using many of the most harmful additives such as hydrogenated fat, MSG and artificial flavors and dyes.
